As a busy yoga teacher it is often hard to make time for your own personal practice; you might be teaching a lot of classes yourself or managing your own business for the first time or balancing all the above with family life. Nevertheless, it is vital for teachers to maintain a consistent personal practice. Firstly, because it keeps you self-aware and connected to your own body, but also because it allows you to delve deeper into the yogic teachings and makes your teaching more authentic. It is the continuing of your own self-development journey and the foundation of a balanced and healthy life both physically and mentally.
Even though we might know how important it is to have a personal practice, it can be difficult to manage our expectations and dedicate this time to ourselves. As we embrace the start of a new year, this can be a good time to set goals and also to think about what we hope to achieve in our yoga practice. Would we like to improve the foundations of our teaching? Spend time on more inward focusing practices? Learn more about meditation and the philosophy of yoga?
If you struggle to set aside this time for yourself regularly then our 50 hour Advanced Gita Module in June might be the perfect opportunity for you to come back home to yourself and your yoga practice. As part of this weeklong training, there will be a different in-depth Yoga Workshop every day, weaving in a theme from the Bhagavad Gita. There will also be a daily Silent Meditation Practice lasting between 1-2 hours. The meditation will support the Gita study and help to purify and calm the mind. Not only will these practices of meditation and Gita study give you new tools and inspiration for your own Yoga Practice and/or teaching (you will learn how to skillfully share these transformative tools with your students), you will also leave with a new and transformational perspective on how to live your life in a liberated and deeply fulfilling way.
